Holsten Galerie Neumünster
The Holsten Galerie in Neumünster, a shopping centre, had requested a touch of retro style and a dollop of vintage charm for its new branding – something to suit the building’s historic facade. No problem for the creative minds at smart art; anyone who knows their craft and has many years of experience is aware of how to deal with different background surfaces and which techniques to use to achieve certain colour effects, and is thus more than happy to take on this type of complicated project. The Holsten Galerie logo on the facade is so big that it extends over three levels of scaffolding. The logo is also directly applied to the facade in several locations, including around a corner. In this case, the team used an old-school technique – sponge painting – to achieve the classic “vintage” look and slightly faded colours. The striking lettering of “Holsten Galerie” was later added directly to the masonry using negative colouring. To underscore the historic character of the building even further, hand-painted cracks – visual only, of course – were later intentionally added to the exterior using a fine brush.
